The convening is open to all LGBTQIA and gender non-conforming birth workers and folks who are interested in birth support. The event is meant to be a space for queer, trans and gender non-conforming folks to build community, expand possibilities, and help each other break down barriers to access and care and navigate the unique challenges we face. This convening will happen at the MANA conference hotel on Wednesday, November 1st from 2pm-6pm with an informal dinner to follow.
For Movement Kids ages 5-16 years old whose parents will be attending the Midwives Alliance of North America conference, November 3-5, 2017. Each day, the students will explore Reproductive Justice through wonder, art, creativity and expression. Film Screening & Project Launch
Thursday, July 27 at 5:30 PM - 8:30 PM at the Alamo Drafthouse Sloans Lake, Denver, Colorado screening and reception. "Letter to My Mother" is a visual and literary body of work created by artist Branislav Jankic. The short film was shot during the first exhibition of the project in New York, June 2016. It is nominated for 3 awards in the 2017 Madrid International Film Festival. Colorado Organization for Latina Opportunity and Reproductive Rights (COLOR) and Elephant Circle are proud to bring this film to Denver to give voice and connection to families dealing with substance use. The screening will launch “Message to Our Mothers/ Mensaje a Nuestras Madres” (M2M), a 9-month project investigating the same issues in the lives of Coloradans. Continuing in the vein of Jankic’s work, Colorado artists will connect with Colorado storytellers to harness the power of art and storying-telling to combat stigma.
Birth Center Rulemaking
Join Elephant Circle and the Colorado Birth Center Coalition to support & celebrate new birth center rules in Colorado. Submit written comments, attend the hearing and celebrate afterward. The hearing will take place at 10:00am on the 19th at Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment, 4300 Cherry Creek Drive South, Building A, First Floor, Denver, Colorado 80246, and the celebration will take place immediately following, across the street at Creekside Park.

Mamas Day
Families of all kinds need midwives. But not all families have access to a midwife who looks like them or comes from their community. That's why Elephant Circle, The Midwives Alliance, Southern Birth Justice Network, and Strong Families have come together for this digital campaign.
Starting on International Day of the Midwife (May 5th) and going through Mother’s Day (May 14th) we are asking people to send a card to a midwifery leader reminding them that we need midwives for all families. Get instructions for how to participate here!

Join us at the March for Science Denver, April 22nd. Meet at this sculpture (outside the Central Library) around 9:15am for the debut of our first elephant street puppet! Then we will proceed to the Amphitheatre at Civic Center Park. The elephant will stand around for awhile. Marching begins at 10 and activities and a teach-in will be happening from 9am-2pm.
Birth Justice Briefing session
A bi-partisan Congressional committee commissioned “an evidence-based analysis of the complex findings in the research on birth settings, focusing particularly on health outcomes experienced by sub-populations of women.”
The report, Birth Settings in America: Outcomes, Quality, Access and Choice will be released 2/6/20 by the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine.
The National Academies (initially established by an act of Congress by President Lincoln) exists to provide nonpartisan, objective guidance for decision makers (including members of Congress) on pressing national issues. This report has the potential to move the needle on issues of access to high-quality birth care in all settings for people of color.
